FIGGYR / FIELD NOTES

How it works

This is a text comparison, not a syntax parser or a semantic configuration validator. CRLF and CR line endings are normalized to LF. Exact mode compares all remaining characters. Other modes ignore trailing whitespace or all whitespace; an optional setting omits blank lines. Original text and line numbers remain visible on both sides. Files must be valid UTF-8, at most 128 KiB and 1,000 lines per side.

The formulaLine comparison = longest common subsequence of the selected comparison keys

Put it into practice

EXAMPLE

Changing a port from 8080 to 8443 produces one removed line and one added line.

EXAMPLE

A line differing only in indentation can match in Ignore all whitespace mode. The two original versions still appear.

Good to know

Does it store my configuration?

No upload, automatic persistence or telemetry is added by this tool. Clear both removes the text and results from the page. Avoid using shared devices for secrets.

Can a whitespace match change meaning?

Yes. Whitespace is significant in some formats, and this tool does not understand their syntax. A match under an ignore setting is not proof that configurations behave the same.
