Fuel & trip cost calculator

Estimate fuel use and cost from your distance, fuel economy and local fuel price. Add a return journey or split the total between travelers.

Your inputs

Adjust the details to fit your plan.

Use 1 person for no split. Values stay unchanged when choosing units; enter the numbers for the units you select.

FIGGYR / FIELD NOTES

How it works

All distances convert to kilometers and fuel to liters internally. A US gallon is 3.785411784 L; an Imperial gallon is 4.54609 L. Miles per gallon and kilometers per liter are inverted to calculate fuel use. The return option doubles the one-way distance and assumes the same economy in both directions. All prices are entered by you; no live prices or exchange rates are fetched.

The formulaFuel (L) = distance (km) × economy (L/100 km) ÷ 100
Total cost = fuel quantity in price units × price per unit
Cost per person = total cost ÷ people sharing

Put it into practice

EXAMPLE

100 miles at 30 miles per US gallon uses about 3.333 US gallons. At USD 3.50 per gallon, fuel costs about USD 11.67.

EXAMPLE

A 200 km round trip at 7 L/100 km needs 14 L. At 1.80 per liter, that is 25.20 total, or 6.30 each for four people.

Good to know

What costs are excluded?

Tolls, parking, charging, vehicle wear, lodging and other travel costs are not included. This estimates fuel only.

How accurate is the estimate?

Traffic, terrain, speed, temperature, cargo and driving style affect consumption. Use realistic observed fuel economy and allow a contingency for planning.

Can I mix miles, liters and metric economy?

Yes. Select the correct unit for each input; the calculator converts them consistently. US and Imperial gallons are distinct.
