FIGGYR / FIELD NOTES

How it works

Use the same units shown on each field. This area-based estimate ignores grout-joint width and assumes rectangular tiles. Layout, offcuts, pattern matching and damaged tiles can change the amount needed. Ten percent waste is a starting point, not a guarantee; ask your installer about complex or diagonal layouts.

The formulaTiles = round up [area × (1 + waste ÷ 100) ÷ tile area]
Tile area (sq ft) = length (in) × width (in) ÷ 144

Put it into practice

EXAMPLE 01

An 80 sq ft floor using 12 × 12 in tiles with 10% waste requires 88 individual tiles.

EXAMPLE 02

A 10 × 12 ft floor using 6 × 6 in tiles with 15% waste needs 120 × 1.15 ÷ 0.25 = 552 tiles.

Good to know

How many boxes should I buy?

Divide the calculated tile count by the tiles per box, then round up. Check the manufacturer’s stated box coverage and buy matching batches where possible.

Can I enter an irregular room?

Divide it into rectangles and calculate each separately. This tool does not optimize cuts or reuse offcuts.
