How it works

One US customary cup is 236.5882365 mL; one US tablespoon is 14.78676478125 mL; one US teaspoon is 4.92892159375 mL. These are not Imperial measures, 250 mL metric cups, or 240 mL nutrition-label cups. Results use up to three decimal places for ordinary values and up to three significant digits for small values. Very small or large values use scientific notation: 1E-8 means 0.00000001. Displayed digits do not indicate measurement accuracy.

The formulaOutput quantity = input × milliliters per input unit ÷ milliliters per output unit

Put it into practice

EXAMPLE 01

One US cup converts to approximately 236.588 mL, or 16 US tablespoons.

EXAMPLE 02

500 mL converts to approximately 2.113 US cups.

Good to know

Can this convert cups of flour to grams?

No. Grams measure mass; cups measure volume. Ingredient density and packing affect that conversion. Use a kitchen scale or an ingredient-specific source.

Is a fluid ounce the same as an ounce by weight?

No. A fluid ounce is a volume measure. An ounce on a scale is a mass measure.
