How it works

Enter decimal quantities: for example, 0.5 for ½ and 1.25 for 1¼. The result keeps whatever unit your ingredient uses: cups stay cups, grams stay grams. This tool does not convert volume to weight or account for ingredient density. Seasoning, pan size and cooking time need your judgment.

The formulaScale factor = target servings ÷ original servings
New quantity = original ingredient quantity × scale factor

Put it into practice

EXAMPLE 01

A recipe serving four uses 2 cups of flour. For six servings, the factor is 1.5 and the scaled amount is 3 cups.

EXAMPLE 02

A recipe serving eight uses 3 eggs. For four servings, the factor is 0.5 and the scaled amount is 1.5 eggs. Beat an egg and portion it as appropriate for your recipe.

Good to know

Should I multiply the oven time too?

No. Time depends on thickness, pan size, equipment and the food. Follow a suitable recipe and check doneness.

Can I scale every ingredient the same way?

The arithmetic factor is the same, but seasonings and leavening may need adjustment, especially for large batches.
