How it works

Each row describes one shift lasting above zero and at most 24 hours. Breaks cannot exceed that shift’s duration. Up to 31 shifts may be totaled. The tool does not detect overlapping shifts, perform timezone conversions, classify overtime or determine paid-break, tax or labor-law obligations.

The formulaElapsed minutes = end − start + 1,440 if ending next day
Net minutes = elapsed minutes − unpaid break minutes
Decimal hours = net minutes / 60

Put it into practice

EXAMPLE

09:00 to 17:00 minus a 30-minute unpaid break gives 7 hours 30 minutes, or 7.5 decimal hours.

EXAMPLE

22:00 to 06:00 with “Ends next day” and a 45-minute break gives 7 hours 15 minutes.

Good to know

What if a shift crosses midnight?

Use the next-day checkbox. A 24-hour shift uses equal start and end times with that box checked.

Are these payroll hours?

They are arithmetic totals based on your entered breaks, without payroll rounding or legal classifications.
