How it works

All dimensions are centimeters; results are meters of fabric. Use usable width after excluding selvedges. Each panel receives the same number of complete fabric widths; partial widths are not shared between panels. Joining seams consume an allowance on each side of each join. Enter the total folded fabric consumed by each side hem and by the top and bottom. Patterned fabric reserves one extra vertical repeat for the start of the whole cut. The model is conservative and excludes lining, tiebacks, heading tape, shrinkage and horizontal pattern matching.

The formulaFlat width per panel = track width × fullness / panels
Full widths allow for outer hems and joining seams
Cut drop = finished drop + top + bottom, rounded to a repeat
Total = all cut drops + one alignment repeat, then extra %

Put it into practice

EXAMPLE

A 200 cm track at 2× fullness and two panels targets 200 cm of flat finished width per panel.

EXAMPLE

A 220 cm finished drop plus 10 cm top and 20 cm bottom allowances rounds from 250 to 256 cm for a 64 cm pattern repeat.

Good to know

What does fullness mean?

It is the total flat finished curtain width divided by the track width. Choose a ratio appropriate to your heading and fabric; 2× is an editable starting assumption.

Why does each panel use full widths?

This simple cutting plan avoids assuming that offcuts can be split and reused. It shows the excess width to trim before hemming. A workroom may achieve a more efficient layout.

Can I use railroaded or half-drop fabric?

No. The calculator assumes vertical drops with a straight vertical repeat. Railroaded fabric, half-drop matching, special headings and patterned side joins need a separate cutting layout.
